Measure the roof, then separate the details
Start with verified field dimensions, not a tax record or a rough satellite measurement. Break the roof into rectangles and other measurable shapes, subtract openings only when the specification permits it, and record parapets, curbs, drains, penetrations, seams, and repairs separately.
- Field area in square feet
- Linear feet of seams, transitions, and perimeter
- Count and size of penetrations, drains, and curbs
- Areas with heavy texture, embedded gravel, or irregular profile
Choose the written system before the rate
A roof coating estimate is a layer estimate. Primer, base coat, reinforcement, topcoat, gel, and detail materials may use different coverage rates. The required wet and dry film build can also change with the warranty term and written system.
Do not apply one generic gallons-per-square number to every substrate or product. Use the current technical data sheet and project specification for each layer.
Convert the measured area into roofing squares, then calculate every liquid layer independently before adding details and waste.
Account for texture, profile, and application loss
Smooth single-ply and heavily profiled metal do not consume material the same way. Rough asphalt, embedded aggregate, repairs, overspray, roller loading, container residue, and field variation can all increase actual usage.

- Spray, roller, or brush application
- Weather, staging, and practical container loss
Treat the calculator as a planning allowance
The Metacrylics calculator is useful for comparing systems and creating an early material allowance. Before purchase, reconcile the estimate with field measurements, current product coverage, required film thickness, repairs, details, package sizes, and written technical review.
Run a small representative area when conditions are uncertain, measure actual consumption, and update the order before full production.
