Metacrylics is a very heavy elastomer weighing more than 12 lbs./gallon. When pumped from the ground to the roof, an airless pump rated @ at a minimum of 1.25 gpm (gal./minute) is required.

For example, the Graco 1230 has proven to be simple and reliable. However, before you buy a pump, rent it first to be sure that it will meet your specific needs. The Graco 1230 has a 5 hp Honda engine and a 6" x 2" siphon hose that pumps from the barrel, sprays @ 3 gpm @ 1200 psi, and allows up to 300 ft. of hose. It also has an optional quick change accessory to pump from 5 gallon pails @ 3,000 psi, 1.25 gpm. When adding more hose, buy the next larger size diameter (3/4" or 1"). Connect the new larger diameter hose directly to the pump.

Tools Required for Application:

4'x4' spray shield made from plywood
Rubber gloves; Sharp pair of scissors

Barricades and barrier tape; Visqueen & Masking tape
Large container of water on roof for tools
    1 Screwdriver, 2 Crescent wrenches
.031, .035, & .061 and extra spray tips for back up
Throat Seal Liquid; Spray bottle of water

DON'T SPRAY on windy days! Use barricades around the job. Visqueen all skylights, etc., not to be coated. Use breathing masks when spraying and KEEP HANDS away from tip! Have a 1/3-1/2 full barrel of clean water available to flush pump, hose and wand, all spray tips, gas, and TSL. Remember to fill a wet cup 2/3 with TSL Throat Seal Liquid. DON'T LEAVE anything in the hose or rig overnight.

STEP 1: Application of Primer

Apply Primer with a .031 spray tip. Stir Primer before each application. The Primer is 75% water, which means the solids settle to the bottom of the barrel very quickly. Stir with a long stick for a couple of minutes.
STEP 2: Application of Acrylic Base and Polyester Fabric

Spray Acrylic BASE with a .061 spray tip. Carefully pour a 1/4" layer of water over the opened drum of Base, this prevents skimming over while spraying. Start the job with a small amount of Base 40" wide 2-3' long. Apply a heavy layer of Base @ 3 gals/100 sq ft. over smooth surfaces and @ 5 gals/100 sq ft. over gravel surfaces.
Embed fabric into the fresh Acrylic Base, remove any wrinkles by pulling on the polyester. Avoid tenting (trapping nails or rocks underneath the fabric). The fabric should conform naturally to the roof surface. Press the fabric into the Acrylic Base with a soft bristled broom. Fabric edges must be firmly pressed down.
Immediately spray a cover coat of Acrylic Base @ 2 gallon/100 sq ft. over the Fabric. Overlap side laps & end laps 3" (all 40" rolls have a red line to guide you). Press all sidelaps down firmly with the broom/roller. Allow 24-48 hours drying time.

*NOTE: Start early, stop early! The Acrylic Base dries quickly on warm days, so don't apply too much before laying out the polyester. Keep the push brooms in the shade when not in use, or put the roller frame in a pail and close the lid.

STEP 3: 3-Course Application of Gel and Fabric

Apply to parapet base & curbs, HVAC's, and all penetrations. Using a rubber glove, apply a smooth layer of Acrylic Gel over the area to be reinforced or repaired. Overlap the field (horizontal) area (Base and fabric) at least 2" and go 2" up on the penetration, curb, or curb.
Embed the 4" (or 6", 9", etc.) fabric into the Gel. Press the Fabric firmly into the Gel with a glove, brush, or trowel.
Apply another layer of Gel over the Fabric. Feather the Gel with a paint brush while still wet. Allow 24 hours drying time.
STEP 4: Application of Acrylic White or Color

Apply Acrylic White with a .035-.039 spray tip. Carefully pour a 1/4" layer of water over the drum of White.

Apply 1st application of Acrylic White or Color @ 2 gallons/100 sq ft. Allow 24 hours drying time. Apply a 2nd application of Acrylic White or Color @ 2 gaIlons/100 sq ft. Allow 24 hours drying time.

Important Application Information:

* DO NOT APPLY products if rain is imminent within 24 hours, or during fog or drizzle. Metacrylics products are water-based and could wash off if not fully cured.

* The Acrylic White dries slowly when temperatures are below 55° F. Do not apply when temperatures are below 40° F. Dark colors dry much faster. Areas shaded from sunlight dry very slowly. 72 hours or more may be required for proper curing.

* DO NOT THIN or add solvents.

* KEEP AWAY from children.

* PROTECT materials from freezing and extreme heat.

* CAUTION! Wet acrylic is extremely slippery when stepped on. Use a safety rope around you on sloped surfaces.

* ALWAYS STIR the Metacrylics Primer before any application. Do not stir the Gel. Usually, the Base and Acrylic Colors do not need to be stirred.

* Wash up completely with water, abrasive hand cleaner, or cold cream and a fibered wash cloth. Remove dried materials from hands and clothing as soon as possible.
