STEP 1: Preparation of Metal Roof and Application of Primer
Thoroughly clean the corrugated metal roof, using an acidic solution such as vinegar with any new metal installed. Power wash oxidized coated surfaces. Wire brush flaking rust. Tighten all screws and replace any rusted, worn-out, or missing screws, including the rubber grommets. Inspect the corrugated metal panels and replace any defective panels with new panels.
Apply Primer @ 3/4 gallon per 100 sq. ft. Apply the Primer with an airless sprayer or a soft bristled broom. Pour out a small amount of Primer to start. When finished, immediately wash out your airless sprayer or broom thoroughly with water. Allow 4 - 24 hours for drying.
STEP 2: Application of 3-Coursing
For use as reinforcement of sidelaps, fasteners, reglets, parapet walls, A/C's, perimeter flashings, roof penetrations, skylights, vents, etc. *NOTE: Usually the panels are connected at 4' intervals and the fasteners are in a straight line on the where the corrugated panels overlap.
Do a continuous 3-Course with Gel and Fabric of the sidelap and fasteners (use either 4" or 6" width fabric, whichever is appropriate). Using a rubber glove, apply a smooth layer of Gel over the area to be reinforced.
Immediately embed a layer of 4" or 6" width Polyester into the Gel. Press Fabric firmly into the Gel with glove.
Immediately apply a smooth layer of Gel over Fabric.
If desired, brush the wet Gel lightly with a paint brush. Allow 12-24 hours dry time. The Gel is available in White or Gray. The Gray Gel should be used in low temperature conditions as it dries twice as fast as the White Gel.
*NOTE: The HVAC or swamp cooler is also an important area of concern. Whenever possible, remove or jack up the HVAC or swamp cooler and 3-Course penetrations, sleepers (wood blocks), and vent or ducts penetrating into roof. Be sure to turn off power to the unit at the main circuit breaker before moving or removing it!
STEP 3: Application of Acrylic Base
Apply 1 application of Acrylic Base @ 2 gallons/100 sq. ft. Allow 24 - 48 hours drying time. *NOTE: Very smooth surfaces may require 2 applications or Acrylic Base to install the total of 2 gallons/100 sq. ft.
STEP 4: Application of Acrylic White
Apply 1 application of Acrylic White @ 2 gallons/100 sq. ft. Allow 12-24 hours drying time. *NOTE: Very smooth surfaces may require 2 applications or Acrylic White to install the total of 2 gallons/100 sq. ft.
*IMPORTANT: BE VERY AWARE of where you are on a corrugated metal roof. It can be very easy to step on a skylight and fall through the roof, back off the roof, or to slip on some wet acrylic and slide off.
Important Application Information:
* DO NOT APPLY products if rain is imminent within 24 hours, or during fog or drizzle. Metacrylics products are water-based and could wash off if not fully cured.
* DO NOT APPLY when temperatures are below 40° F. Protect materials from freezing and extreme heat.
* The Acrylic White dries slowly when temperatures are below 55° F. Dark colors dry much faster. Areas shaded from sunlight dry very slowly. 72 hours or more may be required for proper curing.
* DO NOT THIN or add solvents.
* KEEP AWAY from children.
* CAUTION! Wet acrylic is extremely slippery when stepped on. Use a safety rope around you on sloped surfaces.
* ALWAYS STIR the Metacrylics Primer before any application. Do not stir the Gel. Usually, the Base and Acrylic Colors do not need to be stirred.
* Wash up completely with water, abrasive hand cleaner, or cold cream and a fibered wash cloth. Remove dried materials from hands and clothing as soon as possible.
